Basque Clubs: Christmas announcements

Christmas is around the corner, and Basque Clubs all over the US and Canada are holding their annual celebrations. Some of us are even lucky enough to enjoy Olentzero’s visit to our towns once again! Here is a list of some of the parties I’ve heard about. If your Euskal Etxea is having a special gathering this year and you would like to have it announced here, let me know.

Boiseko Gazteak Winter Show and Kid’s Christmas Party, Sunday – December 4

Boiseko Gazteak Winter Show will be held on Sunday, December 4, at Borah High School, 6001 Cassia St, Boise, Idaho 83709. Txantxangorriak will start the party off at 12:30 pm with the dancers following at 1:00 pm. Please bring a can of food to contribute to the Idaho Food Bank.

All members’ children are invited to the Children’s Christmas Party on Sunday, December 4. The party begins around 2:30 pm. This party is for Euzkaldunak members only. Food, drinks, and sweets will be served. We will sing Christmas songs and listen to Olentzero’s story (Basque Santa) in Basque and English. Then Olentzero himself will arrive to hand out presents to the kids.

To participate bring a wrapped gift for your child. Clearly print the child’s first and last name, along with the child’s age on the outside of the package. Please contact Patty Gabica via email for information or to volunteer to help.

The potluck party will begin at 5pm. Olentzero, after his brief stop in Boise, will continue his journey all the way from the Basque Country to join us shortly thereafter. The story of Olentzero will be read and, if all of the children have been good this year, he will have gifts for each of them. (So parents, please bring a wrapped gift with your child’s name on it.)

This is also a great chance to pay your 2012 Membership Dues ($40 per family, $25 for single/senior) and let the WDCEE Board know what sort of events and activities you’d like to do next year.
