A Basque in Boise

SFBCC Anniversary, NABO meeting and Basque language workshop coming up this weekend

Basques from all over the US and Canada will gather this weekend in San Francisco to participate in several events that are taking place there.

The BCC will celebrate their 30th Anniversay, from February 17 to the 19. There will be bertsolaris on Friday night, pelota and joko garbi games on Friday and Saturday, dancing to Ketxo’s tune on Saturday night, and the Bizi Emankorra awards on Sunday. You can check the complete schedule of events below, and visit the SFBCC website for more information.

NABO’s first tri-annual meeting will start on Saturday at 8 AM. Each member organization of NABO selects its own two voting delegates to represent them at NABO meetings. Visitors are welcome to attend as observers if space allows, but confirmation is required. Please contact Valerie Arrechea at president@nabasque.org if you are interested in going. For additional information about NABO’s meeting, click here.

Finally, a Basque language workshop for future euskara teachers is also scheduled for this weekend. The first session will be from 4 to 7 PM on Saturday (after the NABO meeting), and the second session from 9 AM to 5 PM on Sunday. Izaskun Kortazar, NABO’s Basque language coordinator in North America, and Kinku Zirkundegi, with the Basque Government’s department of language HABE, will lead the event. These workshops are organized every year and they usually take place in Boise. Last year’s workshop was held in October at Boise’s Basque Museum and Cultural Center.
