Boise children welcome Olentzero after Boiseko Basque dancers Winter Show
Like they do every year at Christmas time, Boiseko Basque dancers (ages 4-14) put on a good show for friends and family at Borah High School yesterday, where they performed what they’ve learned in the last few months. It is also a great opportunity for the Basque community to contribute food to the Idaho Food Bank.
After the show, everybody got in their cars and headed to the Basque Center downtown to eat solomo sandwiches, bean soup and chocolate chip cookies, listen to Olentzero’s story and sing Christmas songs while expectantly waiting for Olentzero to arrive, loaded with presents for the kids.
(I snuck out a few minutes earlier and finally made my dream come true!)
For my family, I think this is the 6th year in a row we’ve participated in the Winter Show and been to the Basque Center afterwards to see Olentzero. I got a little nostalgic as I was looking for the links to past years’ celebrations and saw how much my kids and their little friends have grown!

Me ha gustado mucho todo, ha sido muy bonito. Da gusto ver cómo cada año lo van haciendo mejor y lo que crecen los enanos. ¡Muy emocionante!
