A Basque in Boise

Basque teenage girls looking for host families this summer, maybe yours?

Last month I received a couple of requests from young girls in the Basque Country who are looking to further their knowledge of English, as well as the US way of life, in exchange for au-pair and language services. Judging by the presentation letters I asked them to send me, both have a great command of the English language, so communication with your family will be a non-issue.

Leire Romero is a 16-year-old girl from Ibarra, a small town of 4,500 people in Gipuzkoa. Her mother tongue is Basque, but she is also fluent in Spanish and English. She would like to spend 6 weeks with a family in the summer, mid June to the end of July. You can email her at leireromero99@gmail.com.

Garoa Angiozar is a 17 year-old from Berriz, a great little place in Bizkaia. Garoa also speaks Basque, Spanish, and English. She would like to spend the month of June in the United States. Her email address is garoa.an98@gmail.com.

But hey! Why not hear from the girls themselves? Go ahead and clic on the photos to get all the details.

Hopefully something works out for them. They both seem like awesome young little ladies!

I am interested in taking in these fine young ladies. I have 3 girls of my own. I am a Basque-American- First generation born, and I would like to teach English in exchange to teach my girls and myself the native tongue of Euskera. I am fluent in English/Spanish, and I am a speech-language pathologist working in the schools. I would enjoy working with these two young ladies to teach them about our diverse American culture, history, and they would have family ties here in the U.S. My husband is an immigrant from Central America, so the girls would be right at home with learning the language using their own native languages. My daughters are in band, and one is just in early elementary. Our home is very diverse, ethnically related to theirs, and we have fun traveling and exploring the U.S. mainland. These girls would learn alot and go home with a gained new family. Contact me if interested!

We live in New Jersey in the New York metro area. We have two daughters 11 and 7. We also speak fluent Spanish. I am a firefighter and my wife is going to college. We have a humble home witch could accommodate 1 more. If anyone is interested we would be glad to help.
