The prestigious Virgen Blanca tournament commences in the Basque capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, on Friday, with five top ranking couples fighting it out for the prize over four days of competition. The tournament ties in with the city’s annual fiesta. The pairings are as follows:
TITIN III – ZUBIETA (Aspe), MARTINEZ DE IRUJO – MERINO II (Aspe), XALA – ALBISU (mixed pairing), BENGOETXEA VI – BEGINO (Asegarce) and OLAIZOLA II – BEROIZ (Asegarce)
The opening match will be a quarter final between Titin/Zubieta and Bengoetxea VI – Begino. The winners of this game will meet Xala/Albisu in a semi final on Sunday. Olaizola II/Beroiz and Irujo/Merino will contest a mouth watering semi final on Saturday. The final will be held on Tuesday. Friday, Sunday and Tuesday’s matches will all be live on ETB Sat; I will post times when they become available.
