San Fermin Finalists set, plus a coverage guide

Apologies for the lack of blow by blow coverage this week; I’ve hardly been at home! Anyway, we now know the identities of the pairs who will contest the San Fermin pairs final tomorrow night at Labrit. On Wednesday, Bengoetxea VI-Begino beat Olaizola II-Apraiz 22-18 to book their place as the best pair in group A, which gives Bengoetxea a shot at adding the pairs crown to the Cuatro y Medio one he took last Saturday. In group B it came down to points difference with Xala and Zubieta needing at least 15 on the scoreboard to go through in their match against Martinez de Irujo-Merino II. This they did with ease, proceeding to 18-7 before Irujo was forced to retire hurt with a sprained left ankle. He is expected to be out of action for around ten days, so thankfully for him it has proved to be nothing overly serious.

There is no pelota on ETB tonight due to the San Fermin schedules; the final is tomorrow on the last night of the festival and will end just before the citizens of Pamplona gather for the ‘Pobre de mi’ in front of the town hall. Coverage of both events will be live in the usual places.
