Discover the Basque Country

International Press for Basque Country and Mimo

Our passion for Spain and Basque Country is unparalleled. Nothing makes us happier than sharing the special corners of San Sebastián, Bilbao, La Rioja and the rest of Euskadi.  That’s why we get just a little excited when we see that our passion has made an impact.  For nearly eight years we were San Sebastián Food, until we began to expand. Since we opened a site in Sevilla and then Mallorca, we decided to make a transition to Mimo a few months ago.

And now we are splashed across some pretty cool magazine and newspaper spreads:

The March 2017 issue of Olive Magazine features Lucy Gillmore’s experience with all of Mimo San Sebastián’s facets, from cooking to pintxo tour:

The glamorous belle époque Hotel Maria Cristina recently turned its spa into a cookery school. You might think that a hotel which hosts Hollywood royalty during San Sebastián’s film festival each September, would need a spa, somewhere to soothe highly strung nerves. But it’s food that’s the star. Its food credentials include its own concierge-designed DIY pintxos trail, a gourmet shop where you can stock up on gastronomic souvenirs from local wines to smoked olive oil and Basque cookbooks, while in the basement there’s the sleek, state-of-the-art cookery school. Like my tour, it’s run by Mimo San Sebastián, set up in 2009 by British expat Jon Warren, whose passion for the region’s gastronomy led him to leave his lucrative job in the city of London. They offer pintxos tours, cookery classes, wine and sherry tastings, vineyard tours and trips to sagardotegiak (aka cider houses).”

In December 2016, Food & Wine Magazine, one of America’s premier publications, featured us as one of their four picks for European hotels with cooking school:

“Unleash your inner food scientist at the Hotel Maria Cristina
in San Sebastian, the epicenter of the Basque region’s creative culinary scene. At the hotel’s new cooking school, San Sebastian Food, you can focus on foam and gel mastery as well as traditional Basque dishes.”

We are named a must visit while in San Sebastián by the Saturday Times:

“Our hotel offers pintxo cookery classes in its basement. I love that this grand dame of a hotel filled in their swimming pool for this. A highlight is the cooking school and the food shop.”

And then, in the January 2017 issue of Country & Town House Magazine, they show a lot of love for our gourmet shop!

“While there are any number of tatty tourist shops in the town centre, anything from the San Sebastián Gourmet shop would make a much better memento. A few bottles of Txakolina (Itsasmendi Artizar’s is particularly spectacular) and a pot of Maison Arostéguy’s salt with espelette pepper will transport you back to the warren of old town pintxos bars faster than you can say ¡salud!.”
