It is hardly surprizing that “Pintxo Hunting” and the “Pintxo Cooking Class at the Gastronomic Society” are two of the most popular tours offered at San Sebastián Food. Here is one day captured through the lens in Donostia with San Sebastián Food guide Eli Susperregui & friends.
First stop, Bretxa Market to collect the quality ingredients for our Pintxo creating. From the fruits and vegetables upstairs and the fish and seafood downstairs, our cooking instructor chose the prime produce.
At the market we had found a traditional Basque cake at Gaztelu Pastry Shop, so we stopped to enjoy it with a coffee in the cozy atmosphere of Ambigú Estación Coffee & Casual Food. I will have to go back for a taste of Ambigú’s carrot cake that everyone was raving about.
On the way back, we said hello to Aurkene & Sylvain of Zapore Jai, always friendly and welcoming, with delicious gourmet meats. Here they showed us their newest arrivals from acorn-fed pigs across the peninsula.

Before opening hours we dropped into the award winning Bar Zeruko to catch a glimpse of their fusion of traditional and modern styles of pintxos. Everything looked so amazing that later that day the group returned to explore the stunning flavours.
Finally, we arrived at a traditional gastronomic society in Donostia’s fishing port, where we unpacked our market finds and pulled out the chopping boards.
