A Basque in Boise

Boiseko Ikastola news: Don’t miss the Smoky Mountain Pizza Fundraiser on October 22

Registration is now taking place for Fall 2012. Boiseko Ikastola is a quality preschool providing a wide range of classes and experiences as a means to prepare students for kindergarten and beyond. It is the only Basque preschool outside of the Basque Country and is open to children of all ethnic backgrounds. Boiseko Ikastola utilizes a well-rounded curriculum and gives the students exposure to art, music, yoga, and dance through hands-on experiences while maintaining a commitment to small class sizes. Rates are competitive and scholarships are available.

Fall 2012 will bring new changes to the school’s program as it expands to a year-round schedule to address the request by parents who are in need of full-time schooling/care for their children. Holiday vacation days will be limited. Irune Sánchez Gorrono, who served as the primary instructor at the Ikastola from 2008 to 2009 just returned to take over again as andereno, or teacher. We are excited to have Irune back in Boise and working with our children. Our thanks to Itxaso Cayero who has modified her college schedule to act as the primary instructor for the past year and a half, and helped as an assistant prior to that. Itxaso begins her student teaching this fall and will graduate from Boise State University in May 2013.

Irune is still looking for a vehicle to use while she is in the States. If anyone knows of an extra car she can use for the next year, please call Mara Davis at the Ikastola: 343-4234.
